At Mash & Mint, we’re all about discovering pieces that feel personal, well-made, and just a little bit special. That’s why we’re so excited to welcome John Green to our carefully curated collection of independent homeware brands. Rooted in craftsmanship, thoughtful design and sustainable values.
A Design Story Worth Sharing
Founded in 2008 after his graduation, John Green launched his studio with a single piece the Embrace table. It was a quiet triumph: simple in form, clever in function, and beautifully made. Fast forward over a decade, and his studio has grown into a respected name in modern British design, with work found in homes, restaurants, and museums across the globe.
Based in the heart of York, UK, the small but mighty team at John Green Studio takes a hands-on approach to every product. Designs are developed through sketching, prototyping, and material play in their studio workshop, where detail is everything and nothing is rushed.
Why We Love It (And Think You Will Too)
There’s something grounding about furniture that’s designed with intention. From the first sketch to the final finish, every John Green piece embodies the studio’s mission: to create innovative and functional designs with timeless appeal.
Take the Embrace Table, for example, two curved forms that slot seamlessly together to become part storage, part side table, part talking point. It’s a modern nod to the iconic Isokon Penguin Donkey, but entirely unique in its execution.
Or the Otis Chair a beautifully curved, stackable design with soft, floating corners and a solid presence. Available in a range of colours and upholstered options, it’s equally at home in a family kitchen or a creative workspace. It’s this versatility, coupled with quality materials and ergonomic form, that makes John Green’s furniture feel like forever pieces.
And then there’s Tab Shade, a warm, softly glowing light made from die-cut veneer and opal acrylic. Arriving flat packed for easy home assembly (a lovely touch), it brings character and craftsmanship to even the most minimal spaces.
Sustainable by Design
In an age of fast furniture, John Green is refreshingly different. Prototyping in-house not only allows for better design refinement but also reduces waste and carbon footprint. Products are batch-produced by skilled UK manufacturers who share the studio’s values, ensuring ethical production at every step. It’s this slower, more considered way of working that sits right at home with our ethos here at Mash & Mint.
