Arati shares her journey, the meaning behind the brand, and her commitment to understated luxury, effective botanicals, and conscious beauty.

Can you share the story behind Anara Skincare and what inspired you to start your own beauty brand?

Launching my own skincare brand had been a lifelong dream, one I’d carried since I was a teenager. But it wasn’t until a profound personal loss that I found clarity around what I wanted that brand to stand for.

A combination of grief and hormonal changes made my skin incredibly reactive and sensitive, especially around my already delicate eye area. My lifestyle also shifted, and I began leaning into a more holistic, mindful way of living.

The luxury skincare I once loved no longer suited my skin or my values. And while I searched for natural alternatives, I couldn’t find anything that combined true efficacy with elegant textures and that pampering skin feel I craved. I didn’t want to have to choose between luxury and gentleness, between beauty and wellbeing. I wanted it all without complicated rules or compromises, skincare that was luxurious, natural-origin, effective yet soothing, uplifting and designed to travel with me through every stage in my journey of life.

That’s how Anara was born. A capsule wardrobe for your skin, consisting of multi-use essentials for eyes, face and neck, created to support women through life’s many transitions, including pregnancy, menopause and beyond - with grace, clarity, and quiet confidence.

What’s the significance of the name Anara and how does it reflect your skincare philosophy?

Anara is a blend of three inspirations: 

Inara, meaning radiant or ray of light in Arabic. Anar, meaning pomegranate in many languages, a symbol of love and beauty in many cultures. And Anara is part of my own name Arati Nar.

It reflects everything the brand stands for, radiance, simplicity, love and a deeply personal approach to beauty that's designed to nurture and empower.

How do you blend ancient wisdom with modern skincare science?

We honour timeless botanicals with proven benefits, but we formulate them with a luxuriously modern, science-led approach. Every product is designed to feel elegant, be truly effective, and suit sensitive skin - without unnecessary complexity.

Can you tell us about a few hero ingredients used in Anara products and why they’re so powerful for the skin?

We carefully select ingredients that are both effective and gentle, each one with a beautiful story and proven skin benefits.

Here are a few:

Saffron is at the heart of our range, the most precious spice in the world, known for it's brightening, calming and antioxidant properties.

Bakuchiol is being called a plant-based alternative to retinol, but it really is so much more than that. Treasured for centuries, it supports collagen production and smooths the skin without irritation, making it perfect for sensitive skin and for use during pregnancy.

Camu Camu is a powerhouse super-fruit, incredibly rich in vitamin C, helping to even skin tone and boost radiance.

Rose Otto is one of the most exquisite and expensive essential oils, with soothing, hydrating and balancing benefits, as well as a delicate aroma that feels like self-care in a bottle.

What does your product development process look like from idea to final bottle?

It all began with my vision for each product as well as my vision for what I wanted Anara to stand for.

The entire process is rooted in integrity, precision and love. I spent years researching the ingredients I wanted to include in Anara products, as well as the ones I knew I wanted to avoid. 

From there, I worked closely with a team of expert scientists and doctors who specialise in natural skincare and modern formulation science. Together we spent four years refining every detail to ensure each product was gentle enough for the eyes, face and neck while truly supporting well-ageing, as well as delighting your senses.

The entire range is formulated and manufactured with care in Dorset, UK.

Sustainability is at the heart of many consumers’ values now. How does Anara approach sustainability and ethical sourcing?

Sustainability for us means making considered, conscious choices at every step. We source the highest quality ingredients from trusted suppliers, prioritising organic where possible – with up to 92.5% organic ingredients in our formulas. The entire Anara Skincare range is certified by The Vegan Society and approved as Cruelty Free under the Leaping Bunny Programme – the gold standards of ethical certification.

We also take great care with our packaging: our products are presented in recyclable glass bottles and jars and printed using organic ink, and our recyclable outer cartons and marketing material carry the FSC forest management certification, which confirms that the forest is managed in a way that preserves biological diversity and benefits the lives of the local people.

 

Facial Anara SkincareHow would you describe the Anara customer? What kind of rituals or routines do they tend to embrace?

The Anara customer is thoughtful and discerning and seeks honesty and transparency. She values quality, natural ingredients, simplicity, and skincare that supports her through life’s transitions. Her rituals are intentional but uncomplicated, and she embraces beauty that feels grounded, luxurious, and rooted in self-care. Anara is her moment of calm in life’s rush hour – a moment to herself to feel nurtured, loved and confident.

As a female founder, what have been the most surprising or rewarding moments on your journey so far?

One of the most rewarding parts of my journey has been the incredible love and loyalty received from our customers – their wonderful reviews and words of support mean the world. Winning 22 prestigious industry awards in our first year of trading and being featured in iconic publications like Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, and Tatler, have been truly special and humbling milestones.

What’s surprised me most is how unregulated the beauty industry can be. There’s so much greenwashing and a lack of transparency, which makes it hard for customers to make informed decisions. That’s why honesty and integrity have been at the heart of Anara from day one – no inflated claims, just beautiful products that do what they promise and with natural origin ingredients that are kind to your skin.

What’s your favourite Anara product to use every day and why?

That’s such a hard question because I use the full capsule range daily – they have each been created to work in harmony and support your skin at every step. But if I had to choose just one, it would be Radiance Moisturiser. It’s my comforting hug in a jar – rich yet lightweight, it keeps my skin nourished, balanced and glowing all day. It was also the most challenging to perfect, with over 70 iterations, so it feels extra special that it’s not only my personal favourite, but also our best seller.

You talk about 'skin confidence' on your website. What does that term mean to you personally and professionally?

Skin confidence, to me, began as a deeply personal journey. After experiencing profound grief combined with the hormonal skin changes that come with age, my skin became sensitive and vulnerable. I realised how much comfort and reassurance healthy, glowing skin can bring – not just physically but emotionally. That sense of confidence is something I believe everyone deserves to feel, which is why Anara is my gift to the world.

Professionally, skin confidence means empowering people to trust their skin and their skincare choices. It’s about creating products that are transparent, effective, and gentle, so that our customers feel assured they are caring for their skin in the best way possible, while enjoying uplifting self-care rituals.

How do you envision the future of skincare? Are there any trends or philosophies you think will define the next decade?

I believe simplicity will become the focus, with people moving away from complicated routines toward more mindful, intentional skincare. The rise of multi-use products is a trend I am excited about – it perfectly aligns with Anara’s philosophy where every product is designed for the eyes, face and neck and offers multiple benefits.

Looking ahead, I also hope the industry embraces greater transparency and stricter regulations to ensure honesty and integrity, putting an end to greenwashing. Ultimately, skincare should be both effective and trustworthy, supporting people’s wellbeing in an uncomplicated way.

What advice would you give someone looking to switch to more natural based skincare?

Switching to natural-origin skincare is a wonderful choice for your skin, but it’s important to remember that not all products labelled ‘natural’ deliver quality, skin-loving ingredients. Look for transparent, honest ingredient lists and avoid harsh chemicals or unnecessary fillers. Focus on quality over quantity – a few effective, multi-use products that work in harmony with your skin are far better than a crowded routine.

Consistency is key, as ingredients need time to reveal their full benefits. And above all, listen to your skin – it will guide you on what it truly needs.

What does a moment of calm look like in your day and does skincare play a role in that?

A moment of calm for me is those quiet five minutes at the start and end of each day with my Anara Skincare routine. It’s a daily ritual to slow down, nurture my skin, and reconnect with myself. I also find calm in moments of silence or while listening to soothing music, a chance to reflect, daydream and simply be. Adding a beautiful uplifting scent and the gentle flicker of a candle makes these moments feel even more special.
