We’re beyond thrilled to announce a very special new arrival to the Mash + Mint family.
Ian Mankin, the iconic British heritage brand known for crafting the finest natural, British woven fabrics. With a legacy built on craftsmanship, timeless design, and sustainable values, Ian Mankin is a perfect fit for our curated collection of considered, conscious home interiors.
For over four decades, Ian Mankin has been the go-to name for interior designers, stylists, and discerning homeowners seeking high-quality upholstery fabrics, classic stripes and checks, and beautifully made soft furnishings. Founded in 1983, the brand has earned its reputation for reimagining natural fabrics in simple, yet sophisticated colour palettes designed not just to look beautiful, but to last.
A Storied Heritage, Rooted in Craft
The story of Ian Mankin begins in London, where Ian opened his first fabric shop in the charming neighbourhood of Primrose Hill. But the journey started even earlier, designing leather goods for cultural icons like The Beatles and Ronald Reagan, before turning his creative eye to textiles. His second store followed in Wandsworth Bridge Road, and in 1997, Ian published Natural Fabrics: Simple & Stylish Soft Furnishing, further cementing his place in the world of interior design.
Today, although Ian himself retired in 2008, the legacy lives on through one of the UK’s last remaining cotton weaving mills, located in Burnley, Lancashire. The birthplace of the world’s industrialised cotton weaving industry. Here, every Ian Mankin fabric is lovingly woven using traditional techniques passed down through generations.
Sustainable Fabrics with Substance and Style
At Mash + Mint, we’re passionate about sourcing interiors that are both beautiful and ethical, which is why Ian Mankin’s dedication to sustainable British textiles resonates deeply with us. Their collections use 100% natural fibresincluding linen from France and Belgium, cotton from ethically sourced regions like India and Pakistan, and even recycled yarns spun from post-consumer clothing.
Their forward-thinking The Zero Waste Initiative is a particular standout, transforming surplus yarns into limited-edition fabrics that carry both a story and a purpose. These small-batch, zero-waste designs prove that sustainability doesn’t mean sacrificing style with bold new colourways and textured plains that reinterpret classic Ian Mankin stripes for modern homes.
This range transforms leftover yarns from sampling stages or remnants from past collections into distinctive, sustainable fabrics. Working with such limited quantities is no easy feat, but it’s one that Ian Mankin’s design team embraced wholeheartedly. These small-batch textiles won’t be around forever, but their timeless aesthetic and enduring quality mean they’ll thrive in your home for years to come.
The Zero Waste collection is a thoughtful showcase of both texture and pattern, woven with the same expert attention to detail you’d expect from any Ian Mankin design.
Recycled Cotton Throws. Sustainably Soft & Stylish.
Soft, stylish, and smartly sustainable. Ian Mankin’s recycled cotton throws are made using yarns salvaged from waste generated during spinning and fabric cutting, known as post-production waste.
The unique colours of these throws are not dyed but instead come directly from the recycled fibres themselves, eliminating the need for chemical dyes and boosting their eco credentials.
Each throw is carefully designed, woven, and stitched in the UK at Ian Mankin’s own mill in Lancashire. They come in a range of recognisable Ian Mankin patterns that blend heritage with modern sensibility.
Reversible by design and finished with either a classic blanket stitch or elegant fringed edge, these throws offer both form and function. With two sizes available suitable for anything from a single bed to a king they’re a versatile and essential addition to any thoughtfully styled home.
